Interim Annual leave arrangements 2021/22

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues NHSBT is extending the interim annual leave arrangements available to you in 2020/21 to 2021/22, these are outlined below.  More details can be found on each interim leave option page.

It is important that you continue to take your annual to give you a break from work. This will allow you to rest, recuperate and maintain your own physical and mental well-being.  We encourage you to spread your annual leave over the year, where possible, taking at least one week of annual leave every three months.

We recognise that the COVID-19 pandemic affects colleagues in differing ways. This means it may not be possible to take all your 2020/21 leave. For others, it may be beneficial to have access to additional leave.

To support you and help you manage your annual leave a set of interim arrangements have been put in place;

  • Buy annual leave - The normal arrangements of 1 window for buying annual leave will continue in 2021/22 and will be in May.

  • Sell annual leave - There will be 3 sell annual leave windows for 2021/22 (normal arrangements going forward will be 2 windows). The first window will open in May 2021, the following 2 windows will be September 2021 and January 2022.

Any request will need to be approved by your Line Manager. You should have a discussion with your manager to discuss your:

  • Individual needs prior to applying for any of the above options. That will enable you to work together to
  • Ability to take annual leave and ensure you are taking regular time away from work
  • Health and well-being, whilst balancing operational needs.

Requests will also be subject to final NHSBT review before confirmation of whether any request can be fulfilled in full, or in part.

Full details of all 3 options are in the NHSBT Interim Annual Leave Arrangements Guidance and the Interim Annual Leave Frequently Asked Questions.
