NHS Blood and Transplant People First

Charity Partner

We are pleased to announce that NHSBT’s Charity Partner is now MIND.

MIND’s mission is to provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. Mind campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling.

Our partnership with MIND is until May, 2021.

If you would like to become an advocate of MIND and support their fundraising work in our organisation, please contact Graham Bowditch or your local charity champion.

Becoming a Charity Champion

Many of our centres have Charity Champions but we would like to recruit one for each of our centres.

There is no prerequisite to becoming a Charity Champion. Any work time required to organise charity activities must be discussed and agreed with your manager.

You can view the current list of Charity Champions by clicking here.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a Charity Champion, please contact Graham Bowditch.

What is expected of a Charity Champion?

There is no time away from the office as such required, we just ask our advocates to promote charity activities where possible to colleagues in centre, as we try not to rely solely on Facilities teams for this due to their support in promoting operational work. We ask that charity champions join a group call roughly every 2 months to share ideas and best practice and plan any upcoming events.

For national campaigns our advocates will be asked to display posters, organise tannoy announcements, take collection tins around centres etc to support an activity such as Wear Red Day, ensuring all teams in hard-to-reach areas such as Manufacturing and Transport are aware of an activity taking place. Due to the amount of coordination involved, national campaigns take place 2-3 a year max and we would give plenty of lead in time.

Ideally advocates would just also be happy to organise local fundraising activities throughout the year suited to the centre. For example bake sales, sweepstakes etc. There's some general examples here: fundraising ideas These can be organised as and when it is best for you, just a few of these taking place throughout the year in a centre the size of Vincent Drive could make a real difference to our totals.

If you have any further questions please contact Graham Bowditch, OD Manager.
