Disability & Health Promotion Advocates

The Disability and Health Promotion Advocate Scheme outlines our commitment to promoting equality and valuing diversity and will help to ensure that we are fully compliant with the Equality Act 2010.

The main purpose of the Disability and Health Promotion Advocate Scheme is to promote a ‘disability confident’ organisational culture within NHSBT and will heighten awareness of disability equality within our organisation.

The work of NHSBT impacts on the lives of patients, colleagues, and donors from all sections of the community and the organisation is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity in the employment of disabled people.  As a result of this commitment, we have already taken a number of proactive steps to promote disability equality within the working environment through the development of a number of initiatives:

  • NHSBT has successfully been confirmed as a “Disability Confident Employer” at Level 2, and is committed to ensuring disabled applicants are guaranteed an interview where they meet the essential criteria.
  • NHSBT continues to carry out workplace adjustments where appropriate to ensure that the needs of disabled colleagues and those with long-term health conditions, are accommodated.
  • NHSBT is also a member of the Business Disability Forum (BDF) and regularly consults with the BDF on a number of disability work related matters.

As part of the scheme, a group of Advocates have been gathered from across NHSBT to help in promoting disability equality issues within NHSBT and provide general information to colleagues on disability related matters. The advocates will work in partnership with the BDF and seek external expertise on disability related matters.

For more information on the scheme or to become an Advocate, contact HR Direct. Also, see your local Disability and Health Promotion Advocate notice board.
