Developing your Team Activities and Resources

Welcome to the Developing Your Team Activities and Resources. We have developed these practical and easy to use tools for managers to use with their teams, to encourage great teamwork, develop morale and have a positive impact on productivity and relationships.

For more information on each activity, please see the menus below.

Rationale for Developing your Team Activities and Resources

The aim for everyone at NHS Blood and Transplant is to make it ‘a great place to work’. That means making it a great place to work for everyone. In the 2014/15 Your Voice survey one of the areas identified for action was management capability. As part of Your Voice – Our Action, OWD were asked to develop tools to support existing and new managers.

We would encourage everyone who leads and manages people in the organisation to take advantage of the resources on these pages and try them out with their teams, particularly where a specific development need has been identified. This will ensure that all leaders and managers are taking their team development role seriously and demonstrate that we are committed to making our organisation an even better place to work.

‘NHSBT helps to save and improve the lives of people every single day’.

This ‘Developing Your Team’ resource, has been designed to give existing and new managers tools and exercises as a first point of reference so that you can take the lead in the development of your team. OWD remains the department to which you can turn to for support, if the activities have not proved successful for your situation or if the situation is more complex.

How to use these resources

Have you ever wondered how you could run more effective team meetings or wanted to know how to resolve team conflict? Do you want to know how to run your own development session with your team?

Below, you will find a number of resources and tools designed for existing and new managers as practical guidance for you to address areas such as these and take the lead in the development of your team, without the need to call on outside help.

The activities are proven techniques to help a good team become great or to help a team to improve.  Each tool provides step by step guidance and is designed so you need minimal additional resources. The activities have been designed to support you in a range of situations.

Each activity has proved to help individual and team performance. The activities can work ‘stand-alone’ or to compliment other development activities. You may recognise some of the material from programmes you have attended, so there is nothing really new or groundbreaking here. They are kept simple, because they work!

You should start by going through the 'Foundations - First Steps' section and then choose which of the other sections is relevant to you and your team.  You'll find a number of different activities in each section.  You don't need to go through everyone, just pick the one you feel is most relevant.  Many activities don’t take long and require minimal resources so you could try one out in your next team meeting.

If the activities didn't quite have the impact you were aiming for, if the situation is more complex or if you need more support around how to use the resources contact HR Direct
