This year our Awards Ceremony is dedicated to recognising 'Our Heroes', those stand out colleagues amongst us in NHSBT, striving continuously to do better, be better and improve the work or services they offer.

The ceremony this year will be held at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens on Thursday, 24th October.  

Nominations are now live for;

  • 'People's Choice' award nominations have now closed, however we will be announcing the top 3 from your nominations very soon.  Then it will be over to you to vote for your winner
  • Championing Inclusivity: Following on from the success of this new award last year, we are looking for nominations which recognise and celebrate an individual, team, group or network who Initiates and leads action to build or promote inclusion. Nominate a colleague or team for the Championing Inclusivity Award. Deadline: 4th September
  • Engagement: this year our Exec Award will recognise colleagues or teams who excel at engagement. Do you know someone or a team who have done great work action planning or who have introduced an initiative to support making your area in NHSBT a great place to work? Nominations now open. Deadline: 6th September
  • Supporting our Charity Partner, MIND: This award is for any person or team who has done great work to support our national charity, through innovative fundraising, promotional events, activities, etc. Nominate a colleague or team for our Charity Award. Deadline: 12th September
  • Professional Qualifications / Achievements: if you have completed or achieved a professional qualification or apprenticeship in the last year you can enter your details on the nomination form so we can invite you to the Ceremony. Deadline: 16th September.

How can you get involved

There are plenty of ways to support the Ceremony;

  • Nominate: someone for the 'People's Choice' Award
  • Showcase your talent: we're looking for musicians, singers, entertainers who can attend the event and provide entertainment - add your name to our Yammer page with the details of what skills/entertainment you can offer
  • Watch the live feed on the day: we'll be providing updates on the day of the winners via our Yammer page
  • Keep up-to-date before the day: follow updates about the preparation and run up to the Ceremony on here or via our Yammer page

People's Choice Award

Last year we introduced a new award which recognised employees who exuded passion for their role in their part in saving and improving lives, or kept going against the odds or were continuously going above and beyond to help others.  

The window for nominations for this Award are now closed.  

However we will be announcing the top 3 very soon so you can still get involved and vote for your winner. 

Last year we had some fantastic nominations, really proving how amazing our employees.  Check out the People's Choice video from the Award sponsor Katherine Robinson, People Director and last year's winner, Ali Cooper.  You can see why Ali was nominated here.  We also recognised 2 Highly Commended last year, read about their nominations

Qualifications / Professional Achievements

Celebrating our colleagues who have completed professional achievements e.g. qualifications or Fellowship or apprenticeships, in the last year.

If you've achieved one and want to attend the event so we can recognise your success, please complete the Nomination form before Monday, 16th September.

Loyal Service

The ceremony gives us an opportunity to recognise our colleagues who have dedicated the last 30, 40 and 50 years to working within NHSBT, helping to save and improve lives through their dedication.

If you've completed 30, 40 or 50 in the last year you should have already received an email to 'Save the date'.  If you haven't received one let the Awards team know by completing the HR Direct contact form or emailing them before Monday, 16th September.

Recognition of Excellence

From the nominations received each month for Recognition of Excellence an independent panel comprising representatives from the directorates, assess each nomination against our values to choose Quarterly winners for the following categories;

  • Employee of the Quarter
  • Manager of the Quarter
  • Team of the Quarter
  • Customer Service of the Quarter

All quarterly winners are voted on to create the annual winner in each category and we recognise these at our Annual Awards Ceremony.

Other Awards

Other Awards recognised will be;

  • David Anstee Award for Sustained Excellence in Research
  • Excellence in Continuous Improvement Award
  • Excellence in Research - Best Thesis of the Year Award
  • Health, Safety and Well-being Award
  • Special Recognition Award

These Awards are agreed either via panel members in those areas or through special recognition e.g. Queen's Honours.
