NHS Blood and Transplant People First

Our Performance

To help us deliver on our commitment to maintaining and improving the health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues we monitor how we are doing. In practice this means looking at our near miss and accident reporting figures and risks on a monthly basis, identifying any trends and developing action plans where there are concerns, and measuring our performance against the objectives contained in the NHSBT Health and Safety Plan 2018-23.

Our recent projects successfully completed:

Wellbeing

  • Flu 2018 Campaign completed with an increased uptake across NHSBT – 60%
  • Mental Health Wellbeing Champions implemented throughout the organisation
  • People First Pages renewed/updated information – Health and Wellbeing is now Keeping Well at Work
  • Video Clips produced with directors for Wellbeing

Safety

  • Near Miss Incident Campaign (Spot it, Sort It, Report It) rolled out across the organisation
  • Safety Culture Tooting – resulting in a reduction of lost time incidents across the centre especially in Transport
  • DTS Risk Assessments Consolidation (Generic) – reduction in numbers, keeping consistency across the country.
  • Improved Manual Handling Packages produced specifically to meet the needs of Manufacturing and TES
  • Mandatory HS&W Training Refresh (Video / E-learning) refreshed in different format
  • National Disinfectants project – CoSHH risk assessments implemented after consultation with HSW
  • CO2 Readings were taken in all relevant centres and documented
  • Road Risk Survey undertaken for Business Drivers – Lease and Grey Fleet
  • GDPR Reference was amended in all relevant HSW Controlled Documents

Find out more about this month's HSW performance and improvements in the related documents section of this page. These reports, which are sent to local centre management teams, provide a useful discussion point at team talks and team briefs.
