Personal Development Skills

We are committed to supporting you to get the best out of your work, to improve your basic skills, knowledge and behaviour in a range of day to day activities.  We are in the process of updating our Personal Skills programmes to provide a new suite of online learning resources which will be available from mid November 2017.

For more information, please see the menus below.

Online courses (Under development)

We recognise that people are becoming increasingly busy and that travelling to attend training events can prove to be difficult. With the roll out of the new desktop, it makes sense to embrace this digital platform. Therefore, we are designing a new suite of online learning resources, which will be available from October 2017 and will replace face to face delivery where these exist for these programmes.  These will include:

  • Customer 1st
  • Communication Skills
  • Courageous Conversations
  • Effective PDPR
  • Embracing Good Work Habits
  • Making Feedback Effective
  • Managing Conflict Effectively
  • Managing Time Effectively
  • Presenting with Confidence
  • Recruitment & Selection (1 and 2 day)
  • Train the Trainer

Coaching and Mentoring

Before submitting your request for either a coach or mentor, you need to speak to you manager to ensure they support your request. Once you have your Manager's support, please complete the form here and a member of OWD will contact you.

A coach helps a person to achieve specific goals focussing on specific tasks or objectives and is usually time-limited. Coaching helps a person to improve, develop, learn new skills, find personal success, and achieve aims and to manage life change and personal challenges.

Typical reasons for working with a coach include a desire to:

  • Improve performance
  • Improve confidence and performance
  • Bring about behavioural changes
  • Improve leadership

A mentor enables a person to make a significant transition in knowledge, skills, or thinking. It usually involves matching an individual member of staff to a senior person within an organisation, who acts as an adviser and guide on personal and professional development over a continuing period of time.
