Registering as a Biomedical Scientist

Biomedical Scientist is a protected title and you must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to practice as one.

To register with the HCPC you must demonstrate you meet the standards of proficiency for biomedical scientists. This is achieved through academic qualifications that meet the standards for education and training. You will also need the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Certificate of Competence. The IBMS Certificate of Competence is awarded upon completion and verification of the Registration Training Portfolio. This must be completed in an approved training laboratory.
