To be able to be considered for a career break you need to have a minimum of 12 months continuous NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) service. A career break can be a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 5 years.

While you are on a Career Break, NHS Pension Scheme members have the choice to pay their contributions for up to 6 months. The employer is also required to make their contribution payments accordingly for the first 6 months. Please use the Guidance provided to setup Pension contributions whilst on Career Break.
On return of your employee from a career break you should complete the Change to contractual details form*
