Equivalence to Clinical Scientist

If colleagues are working as an advanced specialist BMS, with suitable experience and wish to demonstrate equivalence to Clinical Scientist there are two main routes:

We advise colleagues to review both standards and routes to Clinical Scientist status. They need to read the relevant STP Clinical Scientist Curriculum to decide which route is the best fit for them.

The Association of Clinical Scientists - is better if you have a single specialism as it seeks to evidence deeper knowledge across fewer areas.

The Academy for Healthcare Science - looks for a broader background in science. These links will be useful.

  • Equivalence information: equivalence assessment processes for Healthcare Science practitioners and scientists who have undertaken training, hold qualifications and/or have considerable professional experience, and who wish to show that these are equivalent to the relevant Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC) programme.
  • Equivalence guidance: guidance from the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS), on applying for equivalence
  • Frequently asked questions: These Equivalence FAQs for applicants are designed to support the formal Equivalence guidance and documentation.

A summary guide prepared by the Association of Clinical Scientists and the Academy for Healthcare Science to help you decide which route to registration is best for you.
