Secondments and fixed term
Secondment is the temporary transfer of an employee to a different post or area of NHSBT or to another organisation, for a specific purpose and time. This arrangement is mutually agreed.
Fixed-term is used for external recruitment for a specific reason. Examples of when fixed term contracts are used are research projects with limited funding, back filling long term absences or maternity cover.
For both secondments and fixed-terms, you should follow the recruitment process. Exceptions to this must be agreed with a senior member of recruitment who can be contacted via HR Direct contact details. All secondments should be agreed in writing along with any review or end of secondments by using the relevant template letter below.
If you want to change a fixed-term role (or secondment) to a permanent position, the post must be advertised internally through the normal recruitment process, more information can be found on the Recruitment pages.
